Canada today is known as a multicultural country. It is a place where people of different cultures and beliefs can make a home and feel welcomed. But Canada's past, and even its present, has not always lived up to this ideal. Many people in Canada experience discrimination and exclusion.

Being Canadian means coming to terms with this reality. It means making amends and becoming more welcoming and respectful to other people.

This responsibility requires us to ask questions: Are stories of exclusion only in the past? What duties do we have as Canadians to be welcoming to people who are different than us? What does it mean to belong in Canada today?
